Summer and sandals. Spring and flats. Winter and boots. All of these season and shoe pairings go hand-in-hand. Blisters? Those definitely don’t belong in the picture.
From around the web, I’ve gathered several tips on how to wear in those new boots for your fall and winter wardrobes.
1. Wear them around your house. Put on a thick pair of socks and walk around in your boots for a while. The larger than normal socks will make your shoes feel snug at first, but they will eventually help stretch out any stiffness. I like to do this with any pair of new shoes since it’ll allow me to give them a test run for comfort.
2. Toss them in the freezer. Fill one freezer zipper bag with water and place inside the toe of the boot. Make sure the bag is spread out. Repeat with the other shoe and keep them in your freezer for one day. The water will expand once it freezes into ice, and stretch the boot. Then just take them out and let the baggies defrost inside the boot and you’re all set!
3. Take a trip to the cobbler. I have yet to find a reliable cobbler here in Gainesville, but if you stumble upon one, bring your new pair there. They can not only replace soles and broken heels, but most can stretch out a new pair of boots for you.
