Mornings can be tough, especially when Monday rolls around. Sometimes all you want to do is hit snooze just one more time. While I’ve naturally never been a late-night owl, I’ve picked up a few tips along the way that have helped me be more productive in the morning. There’s no better way to kickstart your week than by crossing off things left and right on your to-do list. Here’s what I’ve found that give me an extra boost of motivation in the early morning hours.
Open your blinds. Not only should you open your blinds when you wake up for some beautiful morning sunshine, but try leaving your bedroom blinds half open at bedtime. That way, you’ll wake up naturally to light streaming in your room.
Grab a glass of water. Drink a full glass of water right before you go to sleep. When you wake up, you’ll need to get up out of bed to go to the bathroom anyways. I also drink a cold glass of water in the morning, too, instead of coffee and find that it works better for me (without all the caffeine!).
Play music. I like playing music in the morning as I’m getting ready. Spotify has great playlists to choose from (I like Hanging Out & Relaxing for chill days). You won’t feel sleepy if you’re listening (aka jamming) to your favorite songs!
Prepare the night before. Take the extra five minutes before bed to make sure you’re ready for the next day. That means, plan–and lay out!–your outfit (everything down to undergarments and shoes), pre-pack a lunch if needed, put together your handbag..everything! That way you don’t have to rush to find everything in the morning.
Go for a walk or run. I love exercising in the morning for several reasons: You get to breathe fresh air, feel more awake and you can’t avoid getting your daily exercise. Sometimes I’ll sleep in my workout clothes (they consist of leggings and a big shirt anyways!) so I really can’t say no. In the wintertime, you’ll feel warmer the rest of the day if you get your heartrate up in the morning!
I know everyone’s different, but these are just some things I’ve done to help me increase my productivity in the morning so hopefully they can help you too! The biggest tip? Just wake up early! Set an alarm a little bit earlier each day and try your absolute hardest to not fall asleep again. The morning routine will stick around if you try, and make sure to compensate by going to bed earlier.
Good luck! Have a great week, everybody!
